The Connecticut Leather Company
Maurice Greenberg, a Russian immigrant, founded the Connecticut Leather Company in 1932. It moved from leather and shoe products into toys in the 1950s, and changed its name to Coleco in 1961.11 Plastic wading pools and children’s outdoor furniture “helped launch Coleco in the toy business.”9
In 1981 Coleco had sales of $178.0M and earned $7.7M.3
